    In August 18, 2016, Vietnam Electronic Commerce and Information Technology Agency (VECITA) - Ministry of Industry and Trade held the press conference to announce "The Online Shopping Day Program - Online Friday 2016". It is the biggest e-commerce event of the year which is held annually on the first Friday in December.

    In Vietnam, e-commerce is currently a gravity sector and now attractive to both enterprises and consumers. In 2015, with the advantage of young population, Vietnam ranks 6th in Asia and 17th in the word in terms of the growth rate of Internet users, who make up 48% of its population.

    According to Decision No. 689/QĐ-TTg of May 11th, 2014, the Prime Minister approved National e-commerce development program during the period of 2014 - 2020, VECITA organized and coordinated with Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) and other enterprises to hold the Online Shopping Day Program - Online Friday. This program includes a series of events in which the most important event is the Vietnam Online Shopping Day that will be held annually on the first Friday in December.

    Ms. Lai Viet Anh, Deputy Director of VECITA, Deputy chief organizer of program stressed that: 'Online Shopping Day in 2016 will draw the participant of more than 3,000 businesses with 200,000 promotional products, 50,000 of those are guaranteed by Organizers, expecting a total revenue of VND 1,000 billion VND'.

    Online Friday 2016 was organized to raise awareness and promote activities of community for online sales channels; create opportunities for consumers' demands with the quality products at a special discount. At the same time, the enterprises from manufacturers, goods and service suppliers, delivery services, banks and other payment services will support businesses to strengthen the connections with partners, accelerate the e-commerce supply chain. In addition, the program also supports businesses to introduce the products to consumers aiming to improve the companies' image and increase total sales from online retailers.

    Online Friday 2016 will be a combination of online and offline activities, including Online shopping day in Autumn on September 30th, 2016; Vietnam E-commerce Development Forum in November; Vietnam Online Shopping Day on the first Friday in December (02/12/2016) and the Big OFF event on  December 01st , 02nd  and 03rd, 2016.

    Major participants of the event include Manufacture and imported genuine group (Samsung, Intel, Asus, Oppo, Maison JSC, Hoang Phuc International,...); Omni - channel retailers (Thegioididong, Nguyen Kim, HC, Pico, MediaMart, Tran Anh, ... ); 100+ prominent e-commerce group; Online travel companies; Start-ups; Banks and intermediary payment services; Delivery enterprises. Consumers can shop and interact with businesses through online and offline events.

    Participating enterprises are required to list their original prices and sell products at discount rate registered in advance with the organizers. Participating enterprises are required to comply with regulations on the transparency of product quality and discounts in order to protect consumers’ right.  Violators will be fined and even face expulsion from the program./.
