How AI is Transforming Vietnam Across 3 Different Sectors24/09/2020Despite the rising popularity of the technology on a worldwide scale, artificial intelligence is also rapidly progressing throughout Vietnam. From healthcare to education, and even the transportation industry, there are several innovative ways that the technology is already at work to improve many aspects of daily life throughout the country.
Revolutionising the healthcare industry
In the healthcare industry, artificial intelligence is working to improve how healthcare systems function. For example, earlier in 2020 in Ho Chi Minh City, a smart medical operating center was launched that implements the use of AI. The technology works to connect collected data from other medical centers and carry out an analysis of it as well. For Vietnam, the pilot project’s technology couldn’t have come at a better time. In fact, in regards to the coronavirus pandemic, the technology has been able to be put to good use in helping with the situation as it joined with the city’s health department as the center works to continually update information at 47 hospitals across the city. With its unique and productive way of keeping track of the capacity to take in and treat patients, the center’s innovative approach allows for a streamlined and effective way of functioning like never before.
Autonomous vehicles — not as close as we think
Transportation is another major industry that AI is attempting to change the world — with one major example being through autonomous (self-driving) vehicles. For example, one of the latest journeys in autonomous trucking spanned an impressive 41 hours, showing its capability of revolutionising the trucking and shipping industry in the future. However, when it comes to autonomous vehicles in Vietnam, the innovative technology might not be as close as we think due to the driving culture and traffic patterns. For example, Raj Rajkumar, a Carnegie Mellon professor who’s an expert on the subject noted that the traffic patterns found in Vietnam, and other countries like China bring a large challenge to autonomous vehicles.
Changing the way e-learning functions
Where the education industry is concerned, e-learning has knowingly become one of the most streamlined and modernised ways to receive an education across the world — and it’s improving in Vietnam thanks to innovative AI capabilities. In fact, the nation’s first smart educational assistant that makes use of artificial intelligence was launched in 2019, via the online e-learning system known as VioEdu.
Through AI technology, the system allows for a truly personalised learning approach that helps students by analysing data on their learning behaviours and knowledge, which then allows for the creation of a “learning path” that is customised for each student. In fact, a trial run of the technology on 2,000 students in different schools throughout Hanoi actually found that an impressive 73.8% of the students had made notable progress though using the VioEdu system after only 3-6 months of doing so — thus proving that the technology can efficiently and streamline e-learning, allowing for an effective learning method.
Artificial intelligence is a rapidly evolving technology that has the potential to streamline and revolutionise the way that the world works. In Vietnam, this can be seen in several industries across the nation, including healthcare and education, despite that fully autonomous vehicles might be farther off than expected.
